My September 24, 2025, Email to LibreTexts Re: "Glucose (Dextrose)" Article

Re: Your Article Entitled "Glucose (Dextrose)"

Based on your article entitled "Glucose (Dextrose)," and for consumer/patient safety, is it your opinion that "dextrose is produced by the human liver?"  As you are aware, The FDA and The Sugar Association confirm that dextrose is an "ADDED SUGAR" that must never be associated with the human body, except that ingestion of this added sugar can raise glucose (blood sugar) levels. Therefore, it would be impossible for an "added sugar" to be "produced by the human liver."
https://chem.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Biological_Chemistry/Supplemental_Modules_(Biological_Chemistry)/Carbohydrates/Monosaccharides/Glucose_(Dextrose)#:~:text=Glucose%20is%20by%20far%20the,110%20mg/dL%20of%20blood.

In addition, the FDA clearly refers to dextrose [cornstarch sugar] as D-glucose -- NOT glucose [the lifeblood of every living organism essential to their survival], 21CFR184.1857.
https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-21/chapter-I/subchapter-B/part-184/subpart-B/section-184.1857

Final Question:  Is it your opinion that "dextrose is naturally present in humans and in every other living organism; i.e., essential for their survival?"

Thank you for addressing this critical concern for the safety of individuals diagnosed with an IgE-mediated allergy to corn.

P.S. There are currently over 22K members in corn allergy support groups (nearly double the membership in sesame seed allergy support groups), and we will no longer tolerate clinicians telling us:  "Dextrose is naturally present in the human body."  We respectfully advise clinicians that if they inject us with dextrose (cornstarch sugar)-containing IV fluids when our allergy to corn is clearly documented in our medical records, they can be sued for medical malpractice.  We should never be required to educate our clinicians to guarantee our safety.
